# Reaction Time Test > Reaction Time Test (testreaction.com) is a free online tool that measures how quickly you react to a visual signal. It runs in the browser, needs no sign-up or install, and is available in 14 languages. ## How the test works - Press "Start test" or click the test area, then wait. - After a random delay of 0.8 to 3 seconds, the area turns green. Click, tap, or press Space or Enter as fast as possible. - Clicking before the area turns green does not count, and the attempt can be tried again. - Each series has 5 attempts. The page shows the current, average, and best time in milliseconds, plus a rating for each attempt. ## Rating scale Based on the real results visitors have added to the test (median about 294 ms in October 2026). - Under 200 ms: excellent - 200-249 ms: very good - 250-299 ms: above average - 300-349 ms: average - 350-449 ms: below average - 450 ms or more: slow In lab studies, adults' average reaction time to a simple visual signal is usually around 200 to 300 milliseconds, and it gets slightly slower with age. Results depend on the device as well as on reflexes (screen refresh rate, mouse, keyboard or touchscreen, browser, and other programs running), so ratings are a rough guide rather than an exact or clinical measurement. ## Key facts - Free to use, with no account or sign-up. - Test results are calculated in the visitor's browser. After 5 attempts, a visitor can choose "Add my result" to add only their average (no personal data) to an anonymous results chart. - Where a consent prompt is shown (for example in the EU and UK), Google Analytics loads only if the visitor's choices allow it. Elsewhere it loads normally. - The test is for general information and entertainment only. It is not a medical, psychological, or diagnostic tool. ## Pages - [Reaction Time Test](https://testreaction.com/): The test itself (English) - [About](https://testreaction.com/about.html): Who runs Test Reaction (an engineer), why the site was built, how the test works, privacy, and contact details - [Average Reaction Time guide](https://testreaction.com/guides/average-reaction-time/): Live chart of anonymous average reaction times added by visitors, with what a normal reaction time is and what affects it.
