Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement explains what information is collected when you visit testreaction.com (the "Site," "we," "us," or "our"), how it's used, and the choices you have.

In short:

  • You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your name, email address, or other personal details to use the test.
  • Your reaction times stay in your browser unless you choose Add my result. Then only your average is saved, anonymously, for the results chart.
  • You can optionally pick an age range afterwards. We store it as a count only, never next to your result and never with anything that identifies you. See Your age range.
  • The Site is paid for by advertising. Our advertising partner, Mediavine, and the companies it works with use cookies and similar technologies to choose and measure the ads you see.
  • We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site.
  • Where the law requires it, a consent prompt appears before advertising or analytics cookies are used, and you can change your answer at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page.
  • We don't sell your personal information for money. Some privacy laws treat personalised advertising itself as "selling" or "sharing" information, so see Advertising for how to turn it off.

Information we collect

Your test results

Your reaction times, averages, and ratings are calculated in your browser and kept only while the page is open. They're cleared when you reset the test, reload the page, or leave it.

After you finish all 5 attempts, you can choose Add my result. If you do, your browser sends your average and your 5 attempt times to our server. The attempt times are used only to check that the result is genuine and are not stored. Only your average, a single number such as 243 ms, is saved to build the anonymous results chart in our average reaction time guide. Nothing that identifies you is stored with it: no name, email address, IP address, device details, or cookies. Because saved averages can't be linked to anyone, we can't find or remove a specific person's result.

Your age range (optional)

After you add your result, you can choose an age range so we can show you how you compare with people of a similar age. Answering is entirely optional, and the test, your result and the main results chart all work exactly the same if you skip it.

If you answer, we add one to a running total: the number of results in that age range at that millisecond value. Thousands of visitors share each total. Your age range is not stored alongside your individual result, and nothing links the two together. We keep age ranges only, never your exact age or date of birth, and the youngest range is "Under 18."

We don't use your answer for advertising, don't share it with our advertising partners, and don't sell it. Because the answer is anonymous and kept only as a total, we can't find or remove an individual answer afterwards, which is also why it can never be traced back to you.

Analytics

The Site uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google. Where a consent prompt is shown, Google Analytics loads only if the choices you make there allow it, and it stays off if they don't. Where no prompt is required, it loads as usual. When it's enabled, Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as:

We look at this information in aggregate to understand how the Site is used and to improve it. We don't use Google Analytics information to target advertising; advertising is handled separately by Mediavine and is described under Advertising. According to Google, Google Analytics uses your IP address only to work out your approximate location and to help detect spam, then discards it. For visitors in the EU, Switzerland and the UK, it doesn't log or store IP addresses at all. Google may process this information on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Advertising

The Site is free to use and is paid for by advertising. We work with Mediavine, an advertising management company, to display ads. Mediavine and the advertising companies it works with may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to select the ads you see, to manage how ads are delivered, and to measure whether ads are viewed or clicked. Depending on your choices, they may collect or use information such as:

We don't receive or store this advertising information ourselves. It's collected and used by Mediavine and its advertising partners under their own privacy policies. You can read Mediavine's privacy policy and see the list of advertising partners they work with.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. The "help" feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser’s cache. Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

Your advertising choices

Where the law requires consent, for example in the European Union and the United Kingdom, a consent prompt appears before advertising or analytics cookies are used. Your answer decides what runs, and you can change it at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page. That prompt also lists the individual advertising companies involved, so you can accept or refuse them one by one.

Some privacy laws, including those in California and several other U.S. states, define "selling" or "sharing" personal information broadly enough to include personalised advertising, even when no money changes hands. We don't sell your information for money, and we don't share it for any purpose other than the advertising described above. If you'd like to turn off personalised advertising, use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page, or send us a request at contact@testreaction.com. Some browsers and privacy extensions can send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. Our advertising partner treats it as an opt-out request in U.S. states whose laws require it.

Server logs

Like most websites, the Site is hosted by a hosting provider (Hostinger) that automatically records basic technical information when you visit. This includes your IP address, browser type, the page you requested, and the date and time. This information is used to deliver the Site, keep it secure, and fix problems.

If you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address and anything you include in your message. We use it only to reply to you and keep it only as long as needed for that purpose.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. Three kinds are used on this Site:

The test itself doesn't need cookies. Your reaction times are held in the page while you use it, and adding your result doesn't set a cookie or send anything that identifies you.

You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though blocking them all may stop parts of the Site working. To stop Google Analytics collecting your visits on websites that use it, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

How we use information

We don't use this information to identify you personally. We don't sell your personal information for money or share it with anyone outside the advertising and analytics services described above. As explained under Advertising, some privacy laws treat personalised advertising itself as "selling" or "sharing," and you can turn it off at any time.

How long we keep information

Google Analytics keeps user-level and event-level data for the period set in our account, then deletes it. Summary reports that don't identify anyone are kept. Information collected for advertising is kept by Mediavine and its advertising partners under their own retention policies, which are described in their privacy policies. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited time for security and maintenance. Anonymous averages added to the results chart, and the anonymous age-range totals, are kept for as long as those charts are available on the Site.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or certain U.S. states such as California, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information about you, to object to or restrict certain uses of it, and to withdraw any consent you've given. You may also have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your information for personalised advertising, and to opt out of targeted advertising generally; the quickest way to do that is the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page, and you can also email us. Because we don't collect names or accounts, we usually can't link analytics or advertising data to a specific person, but contact us and we'll help where we can. You may also have the right to file a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children's privacy

The Site is meant for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. The optional age question offers no range narrower than "Under 18," and the answer is added to an anonymous total rather than stored as information about a person. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this statement

We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
